When a pet arrives in your house it means not only joy and pleasure; our pets require constant attention and care.
As a rule, cats are lovers of cleanliness. They quickly understand where a litter tray is and what it is intended for. But accidents could still happen. Puppies need walking at least three times a day. Your pet may become ill, and will then need additional care. Aging pets require special attention.
No pet owner can avoid the odd accident such as a dog’s or cat’s urine puddle. You can use simple but effective ingredients that can be found in every house to remove residual odors.
1. If there is a urine puddle or blood spots on your linoleum or tiled floor, then it will be easy to handle. A mixture of vinegar and water or any floor cleaner will kill odors.
2. When your pet accidently stains a carpet or sofa, additional cleaning will be needed. A lemon-or orange-scented carpet cleaner will help in this situation. If the stain is fresh, you can use hydrogen peroxide. (First check to make sure it doesn’t discolor the carpet.) It’s fine just to pour hydrogen peroxide onto the stain and then wipe it with a paper towel.
3. Soiled spots on a sofa or chair? Sprinkle baking soda over the affected area and leave overnight. Soda will absorb the moisture as well as the odor. In the morning you will need to vacuum spots well or just clean the soda off the sofa or chair.
4. If a cat’s tray smells bad, you can add a spoonful of soda to the litter. The cat will not notice it and the air around it will become sweeter.
5. There is not a lot you can do about if there is a pet’s urine smell on a blanket. (Because the urine often penetrates the full thickness of the blanket.) So try not to let your cat have access to it.
Do not get angry and never shout or scream at the pet. Your four-legged friend is unlikely to understand your indignation. Part of the problem will be solved by an attentive attitude to the pet. If your pet is ill, you will have to create comfortable conditions and take care of him or her until they recover.
